Jump blues/swing pianist, vocalist and bandleader Jay "Hootie" McShann was from Muskogee, OK. After five years of gigging around Oklahoma and Arkansas, year-old Jay moved to Kansas City and formed his own orchestra, an outfit that at various times included Charlie Parker, Jimmy Witherspoon, Ben Webster, Al Hibbler, "Doc" West and Walter Brown.4/5(1).
